About the role

At 15gifts each Product Engineering team has a dedicated Quality Engineer embedded to provide day to day support, coaching, and guidance on Quality best practices, testing requirements, risk, and automation.

The person we’re looking for

  • Has proven leadership experience improving Quality practices and processes in a modern technology organisation, not necessarily in a line management role.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical matters to technical and non-technical audiences at a level of detail that is meaningful to them.
  • Has a broad range of technical skills including modern tools and languages. Our current stack includes Playwright, TypeScript, and Python.
  • Is excited by opportunities to innovate and experiment. They are always looking for opportunities to raise our Quality bar by improving existing automation and workflows as well as introducing new technologies.
  • Enjoys coaching and mentoring and is proactive in doing so as they understand improving individuals helps achieve broader goals.
  • Will help set the standard for what good quality looks like across their team.
  • Evangelises the value of quality, automation and observability as first-class citizens in software development environments.

You’ll be responsible for

  • Identifying and integrating valuable industry best practices, processes and ways of working into a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Advocating for a holistic approach to quality, ensuring functional inclusion throughout the software development lifecycle to help identify risk early.
  • Bringing current and relevant technical knowledge to decisions which guides the team to make better decisions and achieve better outcomes with their work.
  • Line management for between 2-4 direct reports.
  • Balance an automation-first approach to achieving quality with exploratory testing.
  • Introducing tools and frameworks that reduce repetitive tasks and provide valuable feedback.
  • Ability to bring concepts and practices to life through hands-on demonstrations and teaching members of the team, using practices such as pair programming.
  • Blurring the functional line between Quality Engineering and other engineering disciplines when it comes to creating innovative, quality enhancing solutions.

Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in a senior Quality Engineering role
  • Strong experience in a range of technologies, test frameworks, and languages. Your ability and passion to learn is most important here, but for reference our current tech stack includes Playwright, TypeScript, and Python.
  • A passion for continuous learning, yours and others, including mentoring team members and colleagues.

Diversity is incredibly important to us. Research shows how people from marginalised groups are less likely to apply for a job unless they meet every requirement. However, these accountabilities are a guide and, if you feel like this role could be for you and you don't meet every criteria, please do apply. We'd love to hear from you.

Benefits we offer

  • Employee Assistance Programme (confidential counselling)
  • Medicash healthcare scheme (reclaim costs for dental, physiotherapy, osteopathy and optical care)
  • easitBrighton travel scheme (discounted public transport options)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Life Insurance scheme
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays + your birthday off (rising to 28 after 3 consecutive years with the business & 30 after 5 years)
  • Contributory pension scheme
